“Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” has never been able to recapture its ratings high of its series premiere, and even though it’s had a stronger second season, its viewership hasn’t increased significantly. Still ABC is happy with the series, with president Paul Lee calling it a “great and powerful show for us.”

“If you look at the L-3s and the L-7s, this show pops up to a 3 [adults 18-49 rating], it brings in a male audience and creatively it’s really, really strong now,” Lee tells Zap2it and other reporters at the 2015 winter TV press tour. “We left a great cliffhanger at the end of Christmas, and now it’s going to come back with some fantastic storylines as we go through. And to have ‘Agent Carter’ in there in the gap doing sort of double what we were doing last year is great for us.”

Marvel is expanding its cinematic universe on the small screen later in 2015 when the studio’s first Netflix series, “Daredevil,” premieres. When asked if there was any pressure from Marvel to keep its shows on the air even when the ratings aren’t as stellar as ABC might like, Lee says, “None at all. Absolutely none at all, this is really us. We drive this.”
“We have ambitions for Marvel in the future,” he notes. “We love Marvel.”
