When “Agents of SHIELD” returns Tuesday (Jan. 10), we’ll delve deeper into the world of LMDs and the potential catastrophe they represent for SHIELD, but there’s still the threat of the Watchdogs vs. Inhumans hovering on SHIELD’s radar too.

Having rejoined the team, Daisy (Chloe Bennett) will continue her crusade against the Watchdogs — but don’t expect her reentry into the legitimate world of crime-fighting to go smoothly. While all of Daisy’s friends are obviously happy to have her back, there will be some emotional fallout, and a struggle to ease back into the world she chose to leave. Not to mention, she’s now one of the most well-known Inhumans on the planet.

“She’s been thrust into a new role,” executive producer Jed Whedon says. “She’s now famous, which changes her dynamic, so she’s going to have to just be a soldier for a little while, and put some of those emotional issues on the back burner — but that doesn’t mean they’re not there. They will probably rear their ugly heads in ways that she’s not ready for.”

When it comes to managing her public image, Director Mace (Jason O’Mara) will be the man behind the curtain, so to speak. Predictably, we’re going to see Daisy and Mace bump heads a bit on the new rules and regulations of SHIELD — and which issues should and shouldn’t be priorities.

“He wants to legitimize her as a SHIELD agent, but there are certain obstacles in the way,” O’Mara says. “I think he’s more concerned how he’s going to spin it to the public. She’s already robbed banks and stuff, which is really not good for him … and she’s got crazy powers as well. He knows they can be useful for SHIELD, but at the same time this is about making the world feel safe.”

We’re still not sure how we feel about Mace — especially considering his shady background, and shadier alliance with Senator Nadeer — but we’ll reserve judgmen until we see how he plans to deal with these new threats. If he manages to rise to the occasion, we may be generous and give him a second chance at a first impression.

“Agents of SHIELD” airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
