It’s not strictly necessary to watch the ‘Agents of SHIELD’ webseries now available on ABC.com and Youtube called ‘Slingshot,’ but you’re missing a pretty interesting chunk of the story if you don’t.

The six mini-episodes of ‘Slingshot’ center around Elena Rodriguez (Natalia Cordova-Buckley), otherwise known as Yo-Yo. Instead of picking up where the midseason finale of “Agents of SHIELD” left off, this short story is set during the summer hiatus of the show, when Daisy (Chloe Bennett) was still on the run and Yo-Yo was first becoming an official team member and signing the Sokovia Accords.

Predictably, she has a bit of a tough time following the rules at first, as she figures out how to be part of the team while still honoring her own hunger for justice.

“I think when it’s time to be part of the team, there’s no one more involved [than Elena],” Cordova-Buckley says. “But I don’t think she wants her individuality to belong to SHIELD. I think she’s willing to use her powers to help humanity — and therefore SHIELD — do good, but I don’t think she’s willing to give up her freedom for an institution.”

Missing these episodes won’t skew your understanding of the current season of “Agents of SHIELD,” but you will miss out on some “deleted scenes” type moments — including some FitzSimmons cuteness, and how Elena and Daisy teamed up in the first place.

“Agents of SHIELD” returns Jan. 10, 2017 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
