Brett Dalton as Grant Ward on Marvel's Agents of SHIELDThere was a lot of reuniting going on during Tuesday’s (April 21) episode of “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD.” Beyond Coulson (Clark Gregg) and Ward (Brett Dalton) working together again, the pair also crossed paths with Skye (Chloe Bennet).

Though it’s only been three episodes since Coulson and Skye were together, a lot has changed in the time they’ve been apart. That’s even more the case for Skye and Ward, who last saw one another in Season 2’s midseason finale. He’s now found his place in the world (and a new love interest in Maya Stojan’s Kara/Agent 33) since she shot him and left him for dead, and she’s transformed into an Inhuman with quake powers.
Though Skye and Ward only got seconds in each other’s presence, there was enough there to keep fans guessing. Fans certainly reacted strongly to the pivotal scene with three of their favorite characters:

Beyond Skye running into Ward and Coulson before being snatched back to safety by Gordon (Jamie Harris), Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) also finally got a good confrontation with his former ally. Considering he also tried to kill Ward the last time they were in a room together, it makes sense that tensions were high when they had to spend a long flight together.
Of all the characters on “Agents of SHIELD,” Ward has had the most complicated journey. He went from seemingly straight-laced SHIELD agent to being revealed as an embedded HYDRA agent to a Hannibal Lecter-style informant to a rogue agent who seems to be very at peace with himself. Despite the roller coaster ride, it was nice for both fans and Dalton to have Ward back in the mix.

Based on the synopsis for next week’s (April 28) episode, he could stay back in the mix if he is the untrustworthy ally mentioned. The plot description reads: “Gonzales and Coulson must find a way to put their differences aside and work together against HYDRA, even if it means teaming up with someone they don’t trust.”

“Agents of SHIELD” airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
