It’s a good week to be an “American Horror Story” and/or Lady Gaga fan, for Mother Monster is on the cover of Entertainment Weekly in her full “American Horror Story: Hotel” garb, plus the accompanying story features a slew of new details about the upcoming chapter of creator Ryan Murphy’s latest dark, twisty drama.
In the story, released Wednesday (Aug. 26), Murphy and Gaga hint that this new season will be especially sexy — and gory — which all began with a phone call.
“I called him and I said, ‘Ryan, I wanna be on ‘Horror Story,'” Gaga, a self-proclaimed “AHS” superfan, recalls to EW. “And he goes, ‘OK.’ And that was it.”
Murphy describes Gaga’s Countess character as a glamorous socialite with an unsavory affliction — she subsists on human blood.
“I prefer the term ‘ancient blood virus,'” Murphy says of the Countess’ practice, which he claims is not vampiric. “It’s really a form of hemophilia, in a way.”
Meanwhile Gaga seems to have had the time of her life on the show and playing this character.
“I’ve just been weeping while I’m here because I have returned to something I’ve believed in so much, which is the art of darkness,” she tells the magazine. “It’s not something that everyone understands, but, for the people that do — “Horror Story” fans, my fans — there is a true connection between us, and it’s a language within itself.”
Of course it’s not all about the Gaga. With an ensemble cast of familiar faces which includes: Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson, Lily Rabe, Angela Bassett, Matt Bomer, Chloe Sevigny, Evan Peters, Denis O’Hare, Cheyenne Jackson, Finn Wittrock and Max Greenfield, there is a lot of nefarious activity going on in all corners of “Hotel.” Oh, and there’s a new demon, the Addiction Demon.
“[It’s] a creature in the vein of Rubberman or Bloodyface,” writes EW’s Tim Stack, “who has no eyes or mouth but does wield a nasty, conical drillbit dildo.”
“American Horror Story: Hotel” premieres Wednesday, Oct. 7 on FX.
