Clark Beckham has delivered strong performances almost every week on “American Idol” Season 14, but his Top 8 performance proves he’s in this competition to win.
Beckham delivered a powerful rendition of Ed Sheeran’s “Rain” for the Billboard Hot 100 week. In previous weeks, the crooner has shown he knows his way around soft ballads, but this week he really stepped up his vocal ability.
Guest coach Jason DeRulo told Beckham during rehearsal that he needed to see the song as less of a personal prayer and more like he’s a preacher spreading the gospel. Beckham took that advice to heart and really belted it out as he played along with his guitar.
The change was also noted by the judges, who all agreed that Beckham already musically has what it takes to win the entire show — he just needs to amp up his persona and image to go with his beautiful singing.
As the competition gets tougher and tougher, Beckham is choosing the right time to move to the front of the pack.
