In the premiere episode of Season 7, Kevin Bull has established himself as the ninja to beat, finishing the Venice qualifying course in under a minute.
He was an “American Ninja Warrior” walk on in Season 6, but became the one to watch when he did a backflip off Cannonball Alley and became the first to finish the Venice city finals. Not only did Bull finish the course but his time was second behind only his mentor and “ANW” legend David “The Godfather” Campbell.
His stunning display of speed and upper body control is made more impressive by the fact that Campbell wasn’t able to complete the course at all. Campbell is the show’s most experienced ninja, having competed in all seven seasons and in Japan before the show transferred to America.
This was the first time in his ninja career that he’s failed to complete a qualifying course.
Campbell was taken out by the trampoline in the middle of the brand new Hourglass Drop obstacle. However, his time up until that point was still fast enough to score him a ticket to the Venice city finals.
It is his protege Bull that will walk into the city finals as the fastest competitor though — a title Campbell has held for years. Luckily the city finals will give Campbell a chance to try the Hourglass Drop again — but he’ll have to defeat the obstacle, climb the Warped Wall and complete three more brand new obstacles faster than Bull if he wants to reclaim his title.
“American Ninja Warrior” continues on to Kansas City next Monday, June 1 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
