Marvel did Derek Zoolander proud, because the studio literally released a trailer for ants to promote their new movie “Ant-Man.” Of course, the above video really is a teaser for a teaser that will premiere during the two-hour series premiere of ABC’s “Marvel’s Agent Carter”
on Jan. 6, but it’s not too difficult to figure out what it shows.
Since the wait until Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET is far too long, Zap2it
used our handy dandy zoom skills to pull together a slightly larger, much grainier look at what goes on in the 17-second teaser.
Here viewers are started off by being introduced to Paul Rudd as our con man hero Scott Lang and then moves to an establishing location shot to introduce Evangeline Lilly’s Hope Van Dyne. Later Corey Stoll is seen as villain Darren Cross, and the final shot seems to be a tease of the ant-view portion of the movie.
As for those other screenshots, only the ants know for sure what they show, but we can hazard a few educated guesses. The fourth one seems to be people … looking at a computer? Then the sixth is definitely a crowd of people gathered around another person, and below that is a fight scene — whether training or intentional is unclear. Lastly, one can only hope that dapper blonde dude in frame 7 is a look a Michael Douglas-lookalike
as young Hank Pym — aka the first Ant-Man — but that might be too much to ask for in a first teaser.
UPDATE: Marvel has taken pity on our eyesight and released the full-size version of the trailer. No extra content, but at least it can be seen clearly what’s going on. It’s not a computer but some very mysterious machine. It’s Rudd/Scott Lang in the center of that fighting group of people. The seventh frame is actually a woman in fight training. The clip moves too quickly to get an identifying shot of her face though. Check out the full sized version below.
The official synopsis for the movie reads: “Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.”
Directed by Peyton Reed, “Ant-Man” stars Rudd, Lilly, Douglas, Stoll, Judy Greer, Michael Pena, Hayley Atwell, Bobby Cannavale, T.I., Wood Harris and John Slattery. It’s due in theaters on July 17.
