If you've been missing Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy) on "Arrow," you're in for a treat. When the series returns for Season 6, it'll be with Cassidy as a regular cast member once again. If you're wondering how that works, given that Laurel died in Season 4, you're just not thinking about the multiverse enough.
The CW has revealed that Cassidy will return as Black Siren -- her character's Earth-2 counterpart -- in the final two episodes of Season 5, then stick around for the foreseeable future. Executive producer Marc Guggenheim explains in a release, "One of the things that most excites us about 'Arrow' is that we go where the story takes us. Last year, the story took us to the tragic death of Laurel Lance. This year, our midseason finale reintroduced us to Laurel’s doppelganger, Black Siren. We were so taken by Katie’s fearless interpretation of this character that we knew her story was not yet finished. We couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome Katie back to 'Arrow' as Black Siren, though as her appearances on 'Arrow' and 'DC’s Legends of Tomorrow' this season show, she never really left the family."
Of course, the big question is exactly how the show plans to bring Black Siren back -- and her role next season. Following her appearance in the midseason finale, Oliver (Stephen Amell) revealed that the Siren had been locked up in an ARGUS facility, rather than sent back to STAR Labs to be imprisoned.
He also intended to keep tabs on her, hopefully guiding the Siren to dropping her villainous ways... And while that redemption may be what the show is looking to give this version of Laurel, we can't help but be excited at the idea of her being one of the big bads in Season 6. After all, Team Arrow already has a Canary in newest member Dinah Drake (Juliana Harkavy).
Then again, it's not as if The CW's DC universe refuses to have heroes that double up on powers. There's been roughly 4,000 speedsters on "The Flash," while Oliver has had archery-enthused sidekicks in both Arsenal (Colton Haynes) and Speedy (Willa Holland). Perhaps a second meta with the ability to scream the bad guys away could be fun to watch. If nothing else, they could have a shrieking contest.
Regardless of exactly how Black Siren is reintroduced on "Arrow," you can consider us very excited to have Cassidy back in the "Arrow"-verse on a more permanent basis.
"Arrow" airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
