The world has been blessed with the presence of Adam West for 88 years now, letting the one true Bruce Wayne into their homes via movies and TV since his first appearances on “The Philco-Goodyear Television Playhouse” in 1954.

Over the years West has played a number of roles, none of them more memorable than his time as the Caped Crusader on TV’s “Batman,” which ran between 1966 and 1968. To celebrate the life and career of West, take a walk down memory lane with his life in pictures. You’ll even spy a young Adam in his first movie role, 1957’s “Voodoo Island.”

In fact, West’s take on the Dark Knight is about to live again as he returns to the role to voice Bruce Wayne and his superhero alter ego in the animated movie “Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders” — along with original costars Burt Ward and Julie Newmar.
