It’s official: Ben Higgins is going to be Season 20’s “The Bachelor.”
The “Bachelor” Chris Harrison host revealed the news during Monday’s (Aug. 24) episode of “After Paradise.”
Viewers recently saw Higgins get his heart broken when Kaitlyn Bristowe sent him home on Season 11 of “The Bachelorette.” He placed third, and she chose Shawn Booth — to whom she is currently engaged.
The official “The Bachelor” Twitter account welcomed Higgins into the fold, tweeting: “You dreams have come true, #BachelorNation! @benhiggi will be #TheBachelor.”
The news excited fans of the series, who took to Twitter to welcome Higgins back into #BachelorNation.
Higgins has been ready for this role for a while, he admitted to Zap2it at “The Bachelorette’s” “Men Tell All” special on July 11.
“Being the next ‘Bachelor’ is something you have to consider,” he says. “If it’s offered — it’s a pretty awesome situation and it’s real. You come into this skeptical and you walk out of it knowing that this was a real thing that existed and your emotions were real.”
At the time, he said he wouldn’t be heartbroken if “The Bachelor” offer never came. Fortunately he’s not going to find out what that would be like.
“Life is good for me and if it doesn’t happen, I won’t be crushed,” he says. “I also don’t want to focus on that right now. I still have a job that I’m focused on and I still have a life that I’m focused on. So until that offer is on the table, I’m going to continue to move forward with life and see where it takes me. If that comes up, I’ll think about it. Definitely think about it.”
