On Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 27) Hilary Swank will host “Cause for Paws: An All-Star Dog Spectacular” on FOX. The special is meant to draw attention to the million of dogs who end up homeless every year. To celebrate these unfortunate pups, Swank gathered up her celebrity friends for a puppy award show and special that will have dog loving hearts melting after their turkey dinners.
The event took place in Santa Monica on Nov. 22 and celebrities walked the red carpet to pose with the dogs featured in the show. Zap2it took the liberty of going through the photos and analyzing what the celebrities’ choice of dog says about them.
Kathy Griffin — German Shepherd

Comedienne Kathy Griffin poses on the “Cause for Paws” red carpet with a beautiful German Shepherd puppy. German shepherds are described as shy around strangers, but fiercely protective of those they love. Shy probably is not an adjective anyone would use to describe Griffin — but she is fiercely devoted to causes that are important to her, including marriage equality and animal protection.
Gavin Degraw — St. Bernard

Do you think “Beethoven” was a big hit with singer Gavin DeGraw? He seems really stoked to take a picture with this St. Bernard pup. St. Bernards are one of the biggest dog breeds and therefore are described as active, outgoing and super friendly. Many people know Gavin DeGraw as a piano player, but if anyone has been to one of his concerts they know he’s a big ball of energy too.
Kristen Chenoweth — Terrier

Kristin Chenoweth went for a smaller dog for her red carpet shot. The Broadway singer and actress poses with a Terrier breed, which says she’s an energetic, competitive and fun loving person. Terrier owners are also described as feisty, brave and competitive. Surely you need all of those qualities to go toe to toe with Idina Menzel in “Wicked” every night — plus both the actress and her pooch are equally pint-sized.
Whitney Cummings — Boxer

Writer and actress Whitney Cummings stops with a Boxer pup for her photo. Boxer companions are described as busy, lovers of life and banish stress with their silly demeanor. Whitney Cummings at one point was balancing being a showrunner on “2 Broke Girls,” having her own sitcom “Whitney” and producing her own talk show. She is definitely no stranger to busy. If you’ve ever seen her stand-up (it’s filthy awesome) you’re aware that she definitely knows how to have a good time in a “silly demeanor.”
Paula Abdul — Dalmatian

Oh, Paula Abdul. The former “American Idol” judge takes to the “Cause for Paws” stage with a hyperactive Dalmatian. The spotted breed are most known for their friendliness and high maintenance. If any of those “American Idol” rumors are true, Paula may have found her perfect dog match.
Tune in to see which of these beautiful pups walk away with awards and more when “Cause for Paws” airs Nov. 27 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FOX.
