Charlize Theron’s nerves got the better of her the last time she visited “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” She and President Barack Obama were both visiting the show, and she had a difficult time finding the appropriate conversation topics to small talk with the POTUS.

“I have this thing that happens where I get nervous where I get so nervous that I will say something really inappropriate,” she recalls to Kimmel during an appearance on the show Monday (July 20). “It’s like Tourette’s in a weird way. I don’t know how to stop it. It’s just like verbal diarrhea.”

Obama visited “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on March 12, the same day Theron’s now-ex Sean Penn was a guest on the show. Theron was backstage, and one of Obama’s team members brought her over to meet the president. There he spoke with her about how he was grateful to be on the last night talk show because it meant he could reach a younger audience.

“There was this pause and I didn’t know what to say,” Theron continues. “All I could come up with was, ‘Well, if you’re looking for a different demographic, I can take you to a strip club!'”

“It was terrible, terrible, terrible,” she recalls, her hands covering her face. “Michelle Obama’s going to kill me.”

Fortunately Obama took Theron’s gaffe in stride. “He was so gracious and funny and he could tell that I was truly nervous. He was nothing but lovely, and then I couldn’t sleep for like four weeks because every time I closed my eyes I went, ‘[gasp] Oh my god, I said that! Oh my god, why did I say that?'”
