Rachel Bloom is Rebecca Bunch on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

On The CW’s “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” Rachel Bloom plays Rebecca Bunch — an adorable oddball who has never been able to get over her ex-boyfriend Josh Chan (Vincent Rodriguez III).

When she bumps into him a decade after their breakup she’s convinced it’s her destiny to reunite with him. She’s so convinced that she moves across the country to be closer to him. While that is the definition of stalker behavior, Bloom manages to make Rebecca’s pining relatable, entertaining and best of all — musical.

And that’s what puts her on Zap2it‘s Ones to Watch list. See her answers to our questionnaire below so you can get to know TV’s next musical sensation a bit better.

What’s the current home-screen picture on your phone?

My dog looking up at the time on my phone. I love my dog.

What are your can’t-miss TV shows?

Currently playing right now: “Rick & Morty.” I love “Veep.” “Jane the Virgin,” of course. I really love that show. Oh, and “Shark Thank”! I love “Shark Tank”

What’s a song that always makes you happy when you hear it?

Not ashamed to say, Smash Mouth’s “All Star.” Yup.

What’s the most embarrassing song on your iPod?

Smash Mouth’s “All Star”

Zombie apocalypse or alien invasion?

Alien invasion because they can tell me what is the deal with God because I assume they know more because they’re more advanced.

What’s the last item you purchased?

A shower caddy for the shower in my office so that I can have sex in my office.

Do you have any current pop-culture obsessions?

I always feel like I’m a couple of years behind everyone. I just started listening to this artist Mika, but I think he’s from two years ago. I’m kind of like the Middle East in that I’m getting bands a couple of years after they hit it big.

What’s the worst injury you’ve ever had?

A couple of years ago I cut off the tip of my finger making a pie for Thanksgiving. It’s called a finger revulsion. I have pictures if anyone wants to see it. Email me.

Do you have any nicknames?

I tried! When I was in elementary school I tried to get people to call me Web for Webster, as in the dictionary. It did not catch on. I also tried to get people to call me Ray-J, that’s right. [He] later had a sex tape with Kim Kardashian.

Your first kiss — who and when?

I was a slutty tiny child. I would go around kissing boys. My first kiss was technically in pre-school. I had a boyfriend named Peter and we would full on kiss on the lips in school. Then I stopped kissing people for a while.

My first real kiss was in a movie theater just as I turned 13 with my 8th grade boyfriend Louie. We were watching the Chris Rock movie “Down to Earth.”

What’s the worst place you have ever been to?

Kansas.

What’s your spirit animal?

A honey badger — not because it was a viral video, but because I respect it as a creature.

What was the last lie you told?

I was recently working with someone who was a 9/11 conspiracy theorist and I didn’t really tell him a lie. When he started talking I said nothing, which to me felt like a lie to not immediately start correcting him with facts and figures. There’s no correcting someone when they are that far gone. He should get help.

Do you have any strange phobias?

Failure and death.

Air guitar or hairbrush singer?

Air guitar because I don’t play the guitar and its aspirational.

Who is your last text message from?

Probably my husband and probably it’s a picture of my dog.

If you had to choose another career, what would it be?

It would be designing roller coasters.

If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you be?

I would be on the set of my television show, which is where I am — except I want my dog and my husband here. Also, some spaghetti.

Is there a celebrity that you have met and been starstruck by?

One time I met Stephen Sondheim and it’s the most starstruck I have ever been. The moment went by in a flash. I was like a deer in headlights. He is my idol.

What goes in your carry-on bag on the plane?

My laptop and then usually a good magazine like Atlantic or TIME, and the actual magazine I’ll read which is a Glamour or Cosmo. Something a little lighter.

What’s your favorite beverage?

Root Beer Float.

What food can you not resist?

Pasta.

What do your friends make fun of you for?

My friends make fun of me for just being really f***ing weird and too openly honest. The joke with my friends is that I have no boundary issues. I will tell them how my period is that day but like in a funny way, not in a socially awkward way. It’s adorable when I do it. I don’t have a lot of friends.

What clique did you belong to in high school?

The drama kids.

“Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” premieres Monday, Oct. 12 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
