ben savage mandy patinkin 'Criminal Minds' fact: Ben Savage's take on a Mandy Patinkin is dead on“Criminal Minds” fans have known this day was coming, but now the big ’70s flashback episode is upon us.

Thanks to guest-star Ben Savage’s Instagram, viewers got a special sneak peek of the episode entitled, “Anonymous” directed by “CM’s” own Joe Mantegna while it was being filmed.

Savage is playing a younger version of Jason Gideon, who was originally played on the series by “Homeland’s” Mandy Patinkin, and the resemblance is shockingly good.
The January 21 episode will feature Rossi (Joe Mantegna) having flashbacks to the early days of the BAU (Behavioral Analysis Unit) in the ’70s when he and Gideon were just getting their start. A case in the present day will make Rossi have to call back a case he worked on back then. The episode also pays tribute to the late Meshach Taylor. The actor was a frequent guest star on the series, as well as a long-time friend of Mantegna’s. In addition, actor Robert Dunne will be reprising his role as a young Rossi in the episode.
Although Gideon is often mentioned, Savage’s appearance will be the first time the character has actually been seen on the show since Season 3.
Savage’s photos from the “Criminal Minds” set are a must see for any fan.
