The upcoming “Dancing With the Stars” 10th anniversary special will be missing one of the show’s biggest winners. Five-time champ Derek Hough has suffered an injury during rehearsals that will prevent him from not only dancing in the special but possibly future weeks of the show.
In a tweet that has since been taken down, “DWTS” pro Mark Ballas posted a picture of his longtime friend Hough in the hospital in a wheelchair nursing his injury saying, “Long night in the ER with @derekhough nothing worse than seeing a fellow dancer get hurt especially your brother.”
But ABC confirms to Zap2it that Hough
was injured Monday (April 20) while rehearsing for the anniversary
special and was too hurt to dance for the taping of the special Tuesday

Hough was scheduled to perform with his former celebrity partner Maria Menounos. The TV host posted her well wishes for him on her Instagram along with some video footage of their pre-injury rehearsals. Pro Sasha Farber will be dancing in Hough’s place for the special.

It is unknown at this time whether or not Hough will get to dance with his partner Nastia Liukin throughout the remainder of Season 20.
The “Dancing With the Stars” 10th anniversary event is scheduled to air April 28 on ABC and will feature performances from many fan-favorites including pairs Witney Carson & Alfonso Ribero and Meryl Davis & Maksim Chmerkovskiy.
