With Robin Lord Taylor stealing just about every scene he’s in as Oswald Cobblepot on “Gotham,” you might wonder what the other famous Penguin thinks of his successor. Danny DeVito — who stars on FXX’s “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” — played the role in 1992’s “Batman Returns.”
Asked at the 2015 winter TV press tour about his thoughts on Taylor, DeVito says, “I’ve watched the show. I think he’s a very good young Penguin. He’s a terrific actor.” This should be music to Taylor’s ears, since he admitted at the 2014 summer TV press tour to watching “Batman Returns” hundreds of times as a child.
As for whether DeVito will make a cameo appearance on the show, that remains to be seen. “I don’t know about that,” he says. “It’s all about the schedule and the parts.”
Considering “Always Sunny” and “Gotham” are both part of the FOX family, fans can hope that the schedules work out at some point. After all, it doesn’t have to happen right away. “Always Sunny” is currently set to run through Season 12, while “Gotham” has already been renewed for Season 2.
