Lily James and Patricia Hodge coming to Downton Abbey

The upcoming series finale for hit ITV/PBS drama “Downton Abbey” is welcoming back several familiar faces — and adding a new character to the mix.

PBS announced Monday (Nov. 16) that Lily James will be reprising her role as Lady Rose, in addition to appearances by Matt Barber as Rose’s husband Atticus Aldridge and Peter Egan as Rose’s father. Further, Bertie Pelham’s (Harry Hadden-Paton) mother will be a part of the festivities, played by “Poirot” actress Patricia Hodge.

The finale description reads, “The last ever episode offers all the love and loss, happiness and heartbreak of ‘Downton Abbey,’ and as the family and servants prepare to welcome 1926, they celebrate an unforgettable New Year’s Eve together at the great house.”

Production on the series finale spent a week at Alnwick Castle in Northumberland, which stands in for Brancaster Castle on the show. In the Season 5 finale, Lord Sinderby’s (Atticus’ father) shooting party was hosted there; Bertie Pelham is the agent for the Brancaster estate. Production also filmed dining scenes at London’s iconic Ritz Hotel.

The “Downton Abbey” series finale airs Christmas Day in the U.K. and Sunday, March 6 in the U.S.; Season 6 premieres Sunday, Jan. 3.
