After “All Stars 2” soared to new heights last week with “RuVenge,” bringing Tatianna and Alyssa Edwards back into the fold and earning the show’s most-watched episode in history, RuPaul and the judges made some extremely questionable decisions this week. To be honest, “Drag Race” skidded off the runway and took a hard left to crazy town Thursday (Sept. 29).
There were two things viewers couldn’t understand: One, how in the world did Tatianna end up in the bottom two? And second, how did Alaska beat Katya in the lipsync battle? Now, there’s no standardized method for judging “Drag Race,” but it seems to us any discerning fan can recognize that Tatianna slayed this week, and that Katya out-danced Alaska.
We got to check in with Tatianna after the episode aired, and we grilled her with all our lingering questions. We wanted to know how she felt about being sent home twice, fan feedback, why she dressed up as T-Boz, and everything possible about that damn white crop top.
Was it frustrating watching last night’s episode?
I am over it. Even at the time I was like Well, shit. Guess this is the way it’s going. If anything, it reiterated my initial thought, which was Bitch, you should not have gone home!
Do you feel robbed?
I wouldn’t say robbed, but I thought I did well in the challenge, I thought I did well on the commercial, and the runway… So from that point of view, I don’t think I deserved to. Maybe I deserved to be in the bottom two, because there were so few people there? But I could think of other people the could’ve been in the bottom two…
Is there anything that didn’t make it to air that would’ve made this decision make sense?
Not really. I think everyone on the stage, except for the Top Two, got mixed reviews from the judges. I got praise, and I also got critiques, but so did everyone else. My work spoke for itself. They said Oh, you didn’t show product enough, but I showed my product in every damn shot that I was in the commercial! Even onstage when I got that critique I was like, Well? What more would you like me to do with it?
What’s the story with the top Roxxy gave to Alaska?
I don’t even know. When I was there, I don’t remember hearing them talking about it so damn much. I only heard Alaska mention it once on the runway and I was like okay, cool. [On TV] she mentioned it so many times though, and I’m like Really? It’s a white crop-top with rhinestones, girl, it did not help you win the challenge. I think it was an excuse to make her decision seem legitimate.
Was this a calculated move on Roxxxy’s part?
No. Roxxxy is a helpful person. I don’t think she was being strategic. She was like Oh, you’re going to wear a… White wife-beater? Here, wear this white sequined crop-top instead.
Honestly, we help each other through a whole bunch of stuff. Th reason I wore my T-Boz on the runway was in part because of Katya. We were told to pack a ’90s look — there’s a list of things that they’d like us to bring — and the night before, they were like Oh by the way, we’re not going to be using the ’90s look. I was really disappointed about it. And I liked the pants look that I had already planned, but Katya was like, You seem way more excited about the ’90s look, and the ’90s look involved pants… I was like You’re f*ckin’ right!
Do you think Katya should’ve won the lipsync?
I thought Katya did better, yes. Alaska put a damn flag in a wig! But, being there, Katya had a lot more energy. Watching the show, you notice, they don’t show too much of what Katya is doing, but she did well.
What’s the feedback been like?
Crazy! Season 2 was down the middle of whether people liked me or not — because I was always in some sort of damn argument with some sort of damn bitch coming for me — so ‘All Stars’ has been very different. I was inundated with messages. People were pissed off. Things that I was tagged in on Twitter, people were yelling at Alaska… They are flooding her Instagram with snake emojis! I never thought me getting eliminated would elicit such a reaction.
Where did you go when you were first sent home?
They gave you the option of going home, or staying at the hotel. I had to wait two episodes, which was about three or four days. I was like Yeah, just keep me here. I get free food? And I get to lay out by the pool and do what I want to do during the day? They had security on me, and the other girls were not allowed to know that I was in the hotel room.
How do you feel about Phi Phi skipping the reunion?
I was disappointed. She let me know — we’re good friends. I said Oh, I wish you would come … So she could be there, and explain her feelings on situations… But she felt it was better not to have herself in that situation at all. In the end, I respect it. It’s not a decision that I would make, but it’s what best for her.
If not you, who should win ‘All Stars 2’?
Katya. All the way.
“Drag Race: All Stars 2” airs on Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Logo & VH1
