Things are getting royal on Disney Channel with the introduction of Disney’s first Latina princess. In the Disney kingdom, there is no squad more powerful than the princesses and now “Elena of Avalor” is joining the crew.

The trailer for the series shows Elena (Aimee Carrero) playing music, flying on the backs of magical beats and picking up a sword, willing to fight when necessary. After saving her land from an evil sorceress, Elena now must rule over Avalor to keep her home prosperous.

Elena joins a Disney princess stable that already includes Rapunzel (“Tangled”), Ariel (“The Little Mermaid”), Belle (“Beauty and the Beast”), Tiana (“The Princess and the Frog”), Snow White (“Snow White and the Seven Dwarves”), Cinderella (“Cinderella”), Aurora (“Sleeping Beauty”), Merida (“Brave”), Pocahontas (“Pocahontas”), Jasmine (“Aladdin”) and Mulan (“Mulan”). Interesting;y, Elsa and Anna from “Frozen,” though both princesses on-screen, are not part of the roster. The same goes with Sofia from Disney Junior’s “Sofia the First” — another Latina princess.
