FOX debuted a trailer for hot new drama “Empire” during game 3 of the World Series Friday (Oct. 24), featuring Terrence Howard as hip hop mogul Lucious Lyon, who learns that his time is short due to a terminal illness and wonders what’s to become of his hard-won music empire.

Former “Person of Interest” star Taraji P. Henson is Lucious’ ex-wife Cookie, who is vying for Lyon’s throne alongside his three sons, played by Trai Byers, Bryshere Gray and Jussie Smollett. She’s fresh out of prison and ready for her piece of the pie.

Not included in the trailer is newly-announced cast member Courtney Love. The songstress and Golden Globe nominee will guest star on the show as rocker chick Elle Dallas. Other guest stars include Naomi Campbell, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Judd Nelson.

“Empire” premieres in January on FOX.
