FOX’s newest hero is a grouchy genius who doesn’t play by the rules yet still manages to be excellent at his job. Sound familiar? Yep, Rainn Wilson’s detective in “Backstrom” bears more than a little similarity to another former FOX hero, the grumpy yet lovable “House.”
In the new series from “Bones” creator Hart Hanson, Wilson plays the arrogant yet brilliant police detective Everett Backstrom, who manages to alienate nearly 100 percent of the people who interact with him on a daily basis.
“Backstrom catches bad guys by putting himself in their heads,” explains his colleague (played by “24’s” Dennis Haysbert) in the latest promo for the new series. In other words, Backstrom, the new head of the Portland, Ore., Special Crimes Unit (SCU), makes his living by seeing the worst in people as they commit heinous acts. It’s no wonder he’s in a bad mood a lot of the time.
The show co-stars Genevieve Angelson, Kristoffer Polaha, Page Kennedy, Beatrice Rosen and Thomas Dekker, and “Scrubs” star Sarah Chalke will recur as Backstrom’s former fiancee. As Zap2it previously reported, “True Blood” and “My Name Is Earl” actress Dale Dickey will guest star in an upcoming episode as a backwoods judge who clashes with Backstrom.
“Backstrom” premieres Thursday, Jan. 22 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on FOX, and Zap2it is exclusively debuting the latest on-air promo for the new series before it hits TV. You can watch the video below.
