fab five gymnastics today Gabby Douglas: 'I knew we could do it,' she says of women's gymnastics gold medalThe U.S. women’s gymnastics team took home the gold medal in the team competition for the first time in 16 years. The “Fab Five,” as they’ve been called, sat down with “Today” host Savannah Guthrie to talk about their emotional winning moments.

Gabby Douglas says she knew after the first event that they were going to do well.

“I was so confident. So confident in these girls, I knew we could do it,” says a smiling Douglas.

Kyla Ross
adds, “I definitely think we rocked the house. I hope we made our country proud. We just wanted to go out and have fun competing … I definitely think we did our best.”

When Guthrie asks if it’s sunk in yet that millions of little girls were watching them the way they were watching Kerri Strug hit her vault to clinch the gold in 1996, Aly Raisman says:

“It definitely hasn’t, but it gives me the chills just having you say that. It means everything to us. We’ve been working so hard and to be able to have other people watch us, it means everything. I’m so proud of these girls, it was such an honor.”

And Gabby adds about their families who are there to support them, “It’s definitely important to have your mom or your family support you. When you spot them in the crowd, you feel so honored and so happy. They’ve done so much for us. Just want to thank them and we love them.”
