ABC has been pushing its winter musical-comedy-fairy tale series “Galavant” pretty heavily on-air, and as you can see below, it’s ramping up the off-air promotion as well. Zap2it has an exclusive first look at a poster for the show:
That’s series star Joshua Sasse’s handsome mug on the poster, next to the “Sing His Name” tagline. He plays the title character, a “dashing hero” who is on a quest to rescue the love of his life, Madalena (Mallory Jansen), from an evil king (Timothy Omundson, “Psych”).
Of course, things aren’t quite that simple, given that Madalena has come to rather like the idea of wealth and power that comes with being a queen. Our hero must figure out a way to win her anew, with lots of singing and dancing along the way.
The parody/homage to fairy-tale tropes comes from writer Dan Fogelman (“Crazy, Stupid, Love,” “The Neighbors”), with songs by Oscar-winning composer Alan Menken (“Aladdin,” “Beauty and the Beast”). “Galavant” premieres at 8 p.m. ET/PT Sunday, Jan. 4 for a four-week run while “Once Upon a Time” takes its winter break. Here’s a trailer for the show that gives a pretty strong indication of its winking tone.
