leslie bibb gcb red carpet nc 325 'GCB's' Leslie Bibb: 'Hollywood is like high school with more money'

Zap2it: Many people may not know this from “GCB,” but you’re a Southern girl yourself, right?
Leslie Bibb: Yeah, I grew up, not in a Highland Park (Texas) South but in a small country town in Virginia. My dad died when I was 3, and I was raised by my mom. She was always the bravest person I knew. That’s what I love about Southern women. They’ve got a lot of gumption. But when it comes to them, and I always tease my mom about this, nobody wants to talk about stuff; they just keep shoving it under the rug.
Zap2it: Do you think Amanda is “the right one” on this show?
Leslie Bibb: Amanda is the eyes and ears for the audience as they come and swim through these shark-infested waters of Highland Park. But Amanda’s pendulum reacts so strongly to these women in terms of not wanting to be them, that her pendulum swings back so far the other way, and maybe that’s not the right spot either. Bobby (Harling, the series creator) is so great in terms of drawing these women where no one is ever the righteous one.
Zap2it: Would you like to relive your high-school years?
Leslie Bibb: I feel like Hollywood is like high school with more money. I don’t want to go back to high school. No, I’m serious. I would rather set myself aflame. I can’t think of anything I would want less than those girls being mean to me. I don’t go home for high-school reunions.

“GCB” airs Sundays on ABC.
