The beginning of the end of “Glee” starts on Friday (Jan. 9) when the show returns for its sixth and final season. The two-hour premiere, which includes the episodes “Loser Like Me” and “Homecoming,” will see old friends reunite in Lima as they try to get their lives in order and return the glee club to McKinley High.
Here’s what you can expect to see as the final season begins:
1. Relationship drama
As you’ve probably read, “Glee” supercouple Kurt and Blaine are on the outs when the show comes back, with Blaine already moved on to a familiar face. But they’re not the only couple facing problems — a married couple from “Glee” seasons past is facing a divorce.
2. Emotional music
Rachel not only tackles Adele Dazeem’s hit of 2014, “Let It Go,” but she also sings an incredible, emotional version of Alanis Morissette’s “Uninvited” and a charged duet of “Suddenly Seymour” with Blaine.
3. New kids
Dalton Academy will see a woman try to join its ranks in episode 2 and, spoiler alert, she’s awesome. Newbie Roderick also shows off his amazing, soulful pipes in “Homecoming.”
4. A music video
Director Artie gets creative again when the old New Directions members turn to song to recruit new glee club members and recreate the illustration-filled video for A-Ha’s “Take On Me.”
Nothing says “Glee” like a giant group singalong, and that happens as the old and new cast members join a big, happy rendition of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros’ “Home.”
Former Cheerios Quinn, Santana and Brittany reunite to sing the song of summer, “Problem.” Don’t worry, Mr. Schue doesn’t turn up to guest on the rap (although he is in the episode) — Santana gets her Iggy Azalea on for that portion of the song.
‘Glee’ returns for its two-hour Season 6 premiere on Friday (Jan. 9) at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FOX.
