This year’s Golden Globes red carpet showcased a few trends — we saw a lot of bold red, and many actresses wearing long-sleeved black dresses. The talk of the night, though, was “Smash” star Katharine McPhee. The down-to-there v-neck and up-to-their slit on her sleek black Thyskens Theory dress definitely gave her a moment, as they say. Let’s just hope she doesn’t ruin it with a wardrobe malfunction!
All eyes were also on Julianne Hough. We’re not entirely sure why she’s there, other than as Ryan Seacrest’s date, but the “Dancing With the Stars” alum certainly knows how to make a splash on the red carpet! Her embellished Monique Lhuillier was an eye catcher, perfectly offset by a simple smoky eye and her tomboyish faux-hawk.
Usually we don’t love a pale blush dress on a pale woman, but Amanda Seyfried‘s Givenchy Couture dress was the exception to the rule. Its lacy panels and incredible attention to detail really stood out, while her minimal jewelry and soft wavy hair made her look elegant and refined without being fussy.
We wouldn’t have expected Taylor Swift to wear eggplant, but her simple Donna Karan Atelier dress made her look sophisticated and sleek. We’re not entirely sure about the hair, but she gets points for a new color choice — and a decided lack of glitter.
Finally, we have to give Hayden Panettiere props for her Roberto Cavalli dress, with intricate beading and a beautiful fishtail finish. Her decision to go with a relaxed blow-out instead of an updo sealed the look for us.
