One of the biggest deviations from the Batman comics during "Gotham" Season 1 was Barbara Kean's (Erin Richards) story. Instead of Jim Gordon's (Ben McKenzie) wife, she's become a crazed psychopath who murdered her own parents after being held captive by the Ogre (Milo Ventimiglia).

That's a road she's going to continue to go down, according to Richards, as audiences get to know to the real Barbara. "She's like this uncaged animal now. She's been unleashed onto Gotham," the actress tells Zap2it.

Those last episodes that saw Barbara's unraveling were an acting gift for Richards, who says, "I felt like I brought a lot of what I was going through as a person at the time, finding my real true self, like Barbara was finding her real true self."

"By killing her parents, she got rid of the last structure around her, or the pressure," Richards says. "She's been released onto the world as this new, free being."

Of course, there's one thing that hasn't changed and those are her feelings with Jim. "That's her motive the whole time," Richards teases. Now she just has to convince Jim that falling in love with a murderous maniac is a good idea. Good luck, Barbara.

"Gotham" Season 2 premieres Monday, Sept. 21 on FOX.
