Every now and then there’s a major OMG moment in the first few minutes of “Grey’s Anatomy” and on Thursday night (March 10) fans’ collective jaws dropped the moment a certain new army doctor graced the screen. “Who is that,” we asked. Major Will Thorpe, that’s who!
Dr. Thorpe is going to be the new love interest of Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) and the tall handsome drink of water is played by “Young and the Restless” alum Scott Elrod.
In the episode entitled “All Eyez on Me,” Meredith, Bailey (Chandra Wilson), Jackson (Jesse Williams), Callie (Sara Ramirez) and Jo (Camilla Luddington) travel to a military hospital to perform a super risky procedure on a veteran’s advanced tumor. It’s here that the “Dream Team” from Grey Sloan Memorial work with the new “McDreamy,” Dr. Thorpe.
The tight-lipped show rarely releases many details before an episode airs, but Elrod was able to tease his fans on Instagram with this photo from set.
But sorry, ladies. The 41-year-old actor also posted his recent engagement news to interior designer Vanessa Vazart. The happy couple are also expecting their first child together.
If you’re wondering if this is a one-time appearance, you’ll be happy to know the army surgeon is going to be sticking around. At first, Elrod was only set to appear in one episode. Since starting on the show, his contract was extended to four, and it looks like he is about to take Grey on her first date since her husband’s death.
“Grey’s” fans everywhere just want to say, “Thank you, Shonda,” and please make Elrod a series regular!
“Grey’s Anatomy” airs on Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
