“Grey’s Anatomy” has officially moved on to its third Ellis Grey.
Season 11 of the hit medical drama has once again recast Meredith’s mother — well, the flashback version of her mother, that is. According to TVLine, the young Ellis Grey will now be played by “Army Wives” star Sally Pressman instead of Sarah Paulson (“American Horror Story”).
Pressman, who’s no newbie to Shonda Rhime’s TGIT — she starred on “Scandal” as Lisa Kudrow’s character’s daughter — is slated for two episodes of “Grey’s” this season, beginning with Thursday’s (Sept. 25) season premiere.
Pressman has also been cast in a guest-starring role on “Once Upon a Time” this fall, so she’ll be pulling double duty for ABC.
Back in the 2010 “Grey’s Anatomy” “Time Warp” episode, Paulson guest-starred as the 1982 version of Ellis alongside August Richards (“Angel”), who will continue to play the young version of Richard Webber. But that was before Paulson became involved with “American Horror Story,” which is reportedly the reason Paulson is not returning to “Grey’s,” as they could not make the shooting schedules work out.
