The 2016 Guys Choice Awards taped Saturday, June 4, just a day after boxing legend and advocate Muhammad Ali passed away at the age of 74. Naturally, the annual Spike TV awards show wanted to pay tribute to "The Greatest," so they enlisted John Legend and Andra Day to perform "The Greatest Love of All."

The Grammy-nominated song is best known for being released by Whitney Houston in 1986, but it was actually written for the soundtrack to "The Greatest," a 1977 biopic about Ali. The film starred Ali as himself, following his life from the 1960 Olympics to his "Rumble in the Jungle" with George Foreman in 1974.

"The Champ was the towering figure of our times – in the boxing ring and beyond. He was a freedom fighter who used his fists and his wits, his force and his faith to make our world a better and more just place," says Legend as part of the tribute.

Additionally, model Gigi Hadid was on hand to accept the Out New Girlfriend award and took time in her speech to pay tribute to Ali as well.

"Muhammad Ali has touched me so much in my life, I’m so grateful to have met him, so I wanted to openly say rest in peace Muhammad -- you're the champ," says Hadid, fighting back tears.

The 2016 Guys Choice Awards air Thursday, June 9 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Spike TV.
