Hallmark Channel’s “Countdown to Christmas” movies are always a great way to get in the mood for the holiday season — but this year, fans may be seeing a bit more glitter.
Not too long ago, Mariah Carey made headlines with the announcement that she was going to direct and star in an original film for the channel. Now, as the first trailer for “A Christmas Melody” arrives, fans get their first peek at the chart-topping singer’s holiday surprise.
“This December, Mariah Carey and Hallmark Channel come together for a special holiday movie event,” says the voiceover on the clip while Carey’s iconic “All I Want for Christmas is You” plays underneath, “with a Christmas melody you’ll never forget.”
Starring Lacey Chabert, Brennan Elliott and Kathy Najimy, the movie tells the story of Kristin (Chabert) a divorcee and clothing designer with a young daughter (newcomer Fina Strazza, a 10-year-old Broadway singing sensation). When Kristin has to close her Manhattan clothing boutique and move home to Ohio, she finds things difficult — especially when she runs into her former high school rival Melissa (Carey).
Mother and daughter struggle to re-define their lives at Christmas time with help from a hunky music teacher (Elliott) and neighborly coffee shop owner (Najimy), all while finding time to sing a few Christmas melodies.
“Mariah Carey and her extraordinary all-star cast will bring to life a treasured seasonal classic,” promises Crown Media VP Michell Vicary. “Our viewers will fall in love with [it] during the holidays.”
“A Christmas Melody” premieres Saturday, Dec. 19 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Hallmark Channel.
