HGTV star Tarek El Moussa was diagnosed with cancer in 2013 after an eagle-eyed viewer, Ryan Read (who is also a registered nurse), spotted a lump on his neck and emailed producers urging El Moussa to have it checked out.

After the diagnosis, El Moussa got a chance to meet his guardian angel on an episode of “The Doctors.”

When Read comes out, she, El Moussa and his wife Christina, who appears on “Flip or Flop” as well, exchanged heartfelt hugs, and Read explains how this all happened.

“You get that gut feeling. Halfway through an episode during the marathon, I saw it and stopped the TV, rewound it, watched it again, watched a few more episodes and was like, ‘There’s definitely something there, I need to get the message to him,'” she explains.

Read also says she didn’t hesitate at all about getting involved, though she did hesitate on “how to write the email so that it wouldn’t sound like a crazy fan.”

El Moussa says the show instantly took the email to heart. “We got the email and I had a bad feeling about it, just made the first doctor appointment we could,” he says. “If it wasn’t for TV and her noticing this huge lump on my neck, I would still be moving forward with my life with cancer in my body and probably never done anything about it.”

“The Doctors” hosts encourage viewers not to stay silent if they notice something concerning. “If you notice a change and you notice something abnormal, advise them of it,” says Dr. Travis Stork.

“You may just have saved Tarek’s life,” he adds to Read.
