hilary swank academy of motion picture sciences Hilary Swank to save rescue dogs with fun Thanksgiving special instead of sad TV ad

Academy Award winner Hilary Swank has come up with a way to save orphaned dogs without having to ruin everyone’s day. In contrast to Sarah McLachlan ASPCA commercials where abused shelter dogs are shown in montage as the most depressing song ever plays, Swank is choosing to raise awareness for rescuing dogs in need with a celebrity-filled holiday special.
Swank will be producing and co-hosting “The Great American Dog-a-Thon” on Thanksgiving night, Nov. 27, on FOX. The guest list for the special already includes Scarlett Johansson, Kristen Bell, Josh Duhamel, Miranda Lambert, Kesha and Betty White.
Along with raising awareness for the millions of dogs across the country that need a good home, the special will feature viral videos of adorable pups, musical guests and an awards portion of the evening. Categories will include Cutest Puppy, Best Celebrity Lookalike and Best Viral Dog Video. So there will be adorable dogs accepting trophies for being awesome in various ways.
Doesn’t that sound like fun? Swank will be doing the dogs, and America’s conscience, a favor with a fun holiday special that showcases how joyful rescuing an abandoned pup can be. Not to mention it’s on Thanksgiving, so puppy bowl enthusiasts will be overjoyed to have another day besides the Super Bowl for a canine alternative to football.
If you can’t wait until Thanksgiving for your share of adorable dogs, tide yourself over with the cuteness overload clip below.
