claire danes homeland showtime 325 'Homeland's' Claire Danes: 'It is a little less taxing than last year'Zap2it: How are you feeling doing this demanding job on “Homeland” while pregnant?

Claire Danes: My energy levels have been pretty good. I have to put up my feet every so often.

Zap2it: Is it difficult or draining playing her?

Claire Danes: Yes, in some ways it is. In this season she is more balanced emotionally. It is a little less taxing than last year when her nerves were starting to unravel.

Zap2it: As a native New Yorker, 9/11 had to hit very close to home. Did you have reservations about a project where you would have to think about it constantly?

Claire Danes: I was anxious about it initially, and when I first learned about the project and I didn’t have a great understanding of who [creators] Howard [Gordon] and Alex [Gansa] were and I didn’t realize how sensitive they are.

Zap2it: Where were you on 9/11?

Claire Danes: I was in Australia at the time. And I was about as far away from the event as you could be. I grew up in SoHo, metaphorically speaking a stone’s throw away, and I was in total shock for a while. And one friend in law school and thinking very analytically about it all, and making some argument about how we were engaging it some way, and I just said my house was on fire, and it felt very visceral and immediate and personal.

Zap2it: Do you see “Homeland” lasting?

Claire Danes: There is a lot of room for growth, and I am not entirely sure how they have managed to create these electric, seductive episodes every week.
