The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the first round of Oscars for 2012. Honorary Academy Awards will be awarded at the Governors Awards dinner in December to stuntman Hal Needham, documentarian D.A. Pennebaker and arts advocate George Stevens, in addition to presenting the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award to producer Jeffrey Katzenberg.
Needham has been a stuntman on over 4500 television episodes and over 300 feature films, including standing in for Burt Reynolds and John Wayne. He also directed the “Smokey and the Bandit” and “Cannonball Run” movies.
Pennebaker is an Oscar-nominated documentarian, best known for his 1993 documentary “The War Room.” And Stevens is the founding director of the American Film Institute and co-founder of the Kennedy Center Honors.
Katzenberg is a longtime Hollywood philanthropist, raising more than $200 million for the Motion Picture and Television Fund, which provides financial aid and health care to members of the entertainment industry.
