The news of One Direction taking an extended break from working together has hit fans hard. However, none may be as devastated as Jimmy Kimmel’s niece Allison.

During his opening monologue on the Monday (Aug. 24) episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” the host took time to address the sad state of 1D affairs and how it impacts his family. During a text message conversation with Allison — who is a real person — the young woman can’t hold back her emotions as she uses emojis to tell her uncle she will rely on alcohol, drugs and weapons to get through this trying time.

By the end of the segment, it’s become clear that the text messages are fake, but they are somewhat representative of how some fans feel about the split. While the texts from his niece aren’t real, the tweets Kimmel shows at the beginning of the bit where many fans proclaim their life is over definitely are.

Luckily, as the breakups of *NSync, Backstreet Boys, New Kids on the Block and any number of other boy bands have proven, there is life after pop music. The only question is who’s the Justin Timberlake of One Direction and who’s the J.C. Chasez?
