Former “Good Morning America” host Joan Lunden revealed in June she is battling an “aggressive” form of breast cancer. However, the journalist isn’t letting her diagnosis get the best of her. Lunden graces the cover of People magazine’s latest issue looking stunning while sporting a recently shaved head, bright eyes and a hopeful smile.
The 64-year-old and mother of seven first opened up about her struggle with fellow anchor and cancer survivor Robin Roberts and explains to People she wants to share the knowledge she has learned saying, “I was handed an opportunity to learn everything that I can about this and try to help others.”
Lunden reveals to the magazine she didn’t want to wait for her signature blond hair to fall out due to chemotherapy treatments, so she took matters in her own hands and shaved it off one week after her first treatment.
Although Lunden says losing her hair “isn’t easy,” she ultimately decided to take the plunge for the greater good. “It certainly isn’t the comfortable way to go, but I decided I was going
to try and help others and show women that this isn’t the end of the
world. You can go on — and that was hugely empowering,” she reveals to People.
