It’s a common occurrence to find many iconic musical heroes falling victims to their own destructive issues. We saw it with Elvis Presley, better known as “The King,” Michael Jackson, aka “The King of Pop” and even the Godfather of Soul himself, James Brown. He may have been known as the hardest working man in show business, but the man had a dark side.
Drugs and domestic abuse were commonly associated with the singer in the late ’80s and after he was released on bail after an abuse claim by his ex wife, Brown appeared on CNN’s Sonya Live in L.A. and things quickly took a turn for the bizarre. It’s a segment that has been revisited time and again on the Internet and finally, Jordan Peele found the courage to re-enact the trainwreck interview, word-for-word.
The interview took place in 1988 — or 1987, if you go by Peele’s video — and while it feels like the former “Key & Peele” star is drumming up some kooky dialog, this all has been said before. He was there to speak on the abuse allegations but instead of setting things straight, he went on to promote his tour and ability at pleasing the ladies.
Featured as one of the latest bits to come out of the JASH Youtube Channel, it’s worth pointing out that Brown was never confirmed inebriated or under the influence of any substance during this clip. However, it’s pretty easy to come to the conclusion that there was something illicit at play. To help as a comparison piece, the original interview clip is featured below in all its disturbing glory.
