Julianna Margulies was asked the question on many “Good Wife” fans’ minds at the 21st annual Screen Actors Guild Awards: What did you think when Michelle Obama wore the same Michael Kors dress as Alicia Florrick?
The question was posed to Margulies on during the official Screen Actors Guild red carpet live stream. She says she woke up to 89 emails from people about the style crossover, and her reaction might not have been what people expected.
“My first thought was how on Earth did anyone remember?” she admits of the Season 5 outfit. “It was over a year and a half.”
But beyond the magic of fans on social media making the connection, Margulies says, “I’m unbelievably flattered. I’m a huge fan. I think that suit says I’m powerful, I’m elegant, I’m feminine; don’t mess with me.”
“The Good Wife” costume designer Daniel Lawson gave his reaction to the First Lady’s style choice in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “I thought it was exciting and it was nice that Michelle Obama was wearing a suit that I had identified as putting across a feminine but strong powerful business woman feel, so it was kind of great to see that,” he says. “You can’t help but look at the face with that suit so I thought it was very clever styling on [her styling team’s] part.”
