Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez at the 2011 American Music Awards

The road of young love is rocky, Justin Bieber admits in an interview with “Access Hollywood,” telling Billy Bush that he still loves — and will always love — Selena Gomez.

Bieber says three of the songs on his new album, “Purpose,” are about Gomez, who he calls his “first real love.”

“[The breakup] was really tough, I don’t know if I’m still over it yet,” says Bieber. “I think that I’m definitely in another place, and I think we’ve definitely went our separate ways. I love her and I want her to be awesome, but there are things that remind me of her.”

Bieber also reveals that he wrote a song that didn’t make it onto his album called “If I Would Have Met You in 5 Years,” saying that maybe he just met Gomez too early in life for it to work out between them.

“How many people go through life and end up meeting someone and it feels so right, but it’s just the wrong time. So many people can relate to that,” says the pop star.

Calling Gomez “someone [he loves] dearly,” Bieber says they still check in with each other.

“I’m never going to stop loving her … we always respected each other and we still respect each other,” says Bieber. He also doesn’t rule out getting back together with Gomez in the future.

“I think we both gotta do some, some soul searching ourselves, and figure out ourselves before we can just try to figure out each other.”

“Purpose” drops Friday, Nov. 13.
