Well that was fast. Lt. Olivia Benson’s (Mariska Hargitay) absence on ‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” happened within a blink of an eye, and for good reason. Hargitay, an original member and fan favorite of the long-running police procedural, is bound to her character by viewers — much like Richard Belzer‘s Det. Munch.

Additional good news in the conclusion of this two-part episode, “Unholiest Alliance” shows that there is a future for the series’ newest it-couple, Benson and IAB officer Ed Tucker (John Burke). Although the episode centered around dirty cops and priests who orchestrated a sex ring with underage girls, fans just wanted more of Tuckson — thanks shippers! — during on Wednesday (March 23) night’s episode.

The two have also been added to the long list of TV characters, that have a long-awaited kiss looming over them. Although things are happening slowly, it is good to see Olivia have an escape from sex crimes at work and the constant mommy duty with Noah (as cute as he is).

By no means does Benson need to have a romantic interest, but fans of the series can’t help but burst with excitement whenever she has a new man in her life. Benson seems to have everything else that she’s ever wanted, including career achievements and motherhood.

Could Tucker be Benson’s “happily ever after?” As much as it is wanted, the notion seems highly unlikely that such a thing exists within the “Law & Order” franchise. After all, the family life was a feat unto itself for former partners Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) and Nick Amaro (Danny Pino).

“Law & Order: SVU” airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
