Fans of NBC’s “Law & Order: SVU” enjoyed another ripped from the headlines story Wednesday (Feb. 24). The plot surrounded the story of a celebrity being accused of rape, with its usual “SVU” twist: the victim is a popular internet personality that live-blogs her entire ordeal.
“Some people see a celebrity and see an easy payday,” says Deputy Chief Dodds (Peter Gallagher). While the case here seems reminiscent of the Bill Cosby rape allegations, the story can really be applied to any celebrities who have been accused of assault … whether guilty of the claims or not.
With doubt like that within the unit, it prompts Rollins (Kelli Giddish) to take matters into her own hands to prove that the star is guilty. She ultimately goes rogue in order to pin down the famous actor, played by Craig Bierko, who has fallen through the cracks of the U.S. judicial system before.
In order to catch a predator, Rollins goes undercover and uses some unconventional tactics to get substantial evidence against him. Her plan backfires when the video that she takes of the actor is completely thrown out of court by the actor’s dream team of defense attorneys.
Star of the show, Mariska Hargitay, live-tweeted the action with fans using the hashtag, #SVUandChill. Many of the viewers were less shocked about the case at hand, but how their favorite “SVU” characters, like Rollins and Benson, reacted to it.
“Law & Order: SVU” airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
