With the introduction of Rex Tyler (Patrick J. Adams) and the Justice Society of America, “Legends of Tomorrow” fans are on the verge of getting something that’s been alluding those who love “The Flash” for some time now — the real Jay Garrick.
Since Season 2 of “The Flash” began, viewers were given a man who claimed to be Jay — the original Flash in the comics — only to learn he was in fact evil speedster Zoom (Teddy Sears). That decision leaves the character wide open to show up on “Legends of Tomorrow.” After all, Garrick is a founding member of the Justice Society of America in the comics.
The first lineup included The Flash, Hourman (Tyler), Doctor Fate, Green Lantern, the Atom, Sandman, Hawkman and the Spectre. That’s quite a team.
Naturally, there’s some members you can strike off that list for “Legends” right off the bat. Green Lantern is part of the DC Movie Universe, whereas Hawkman (Falk Hentschel) and Atom (Brandon Routh) already exist in their world.
But there’s really nothing keeping Jay Garrick from making his debut. After all, once Zoom revealed he was posing as a Flash named Jay Garrick, executive producer Greg Berlanti revealed that they had bigger plans for Jay.
“For those inquiring, we love Jay Garrick and would never make him a baddie,” he tweeted. “No reinvention. Keep watching.”
Perhaps the “no reinvention” comment means they’re sticking close to Jay’s original comic book portrayal — as a founding member of the Justice Society of America. Should that be the case, it’s safe to say we’ll see someone new take on the role but given that “Legends of Tomorrow” is done for the year, fans are going to have to wait to find out who.
