At this point, if The CW’s “Riverdale” pilot doesn’t get picked up to series, it’s going to be heartbreaking. The project — based on “Archie” comics — has already landed Cole Sprouse as Jughead and Lili Reinhart as Betty. Now Archie’s dad has been found and it’s none other than Luke Perry, Deadline reports.

The former “Beverly Hills, 90210” heart-throb has signed on to start in the pilot as Fred Andrews. In the comics, Fred is bald with a very noticeable belly. While it’s not clearly how he’ll be portrayed on the show, chances are they aren’t going to have Perry shave his head of pack on weight to play Fred.

A character description reads, “Usually easygoing, Fred Andrews is the owner of a construction firm who is hoping his son, who worked for him all summer, will someday take over the family business.”

The pilot is being produced by Greg Berlanti, who already has a number of shows on The CW that also happen to be based on comic book characters. The story is set in the present day and will present a very different look at the classic characters.

Should “Riverdale” get picked up to series, it’s likely The CW will debut it in the fall.
