malcolm mcdowell red carpet nc 325 Malcolm McDowell compares 'Franklin & Bash's' Mark Paul Gosselaar and Breckin Meyer

Zap2it: Was it fun to shoot the current season of TNT’s Tuesday night legal comedy-drama “Franklin & Bash”?
Malcolm McDowell: I can barely remember it. Yes, I think it was fun. It’s always fun, doing that show. I have a blast.
Zap2it: But you still pop up on other shows, such as CBS’ “The Mentalist,” on which you played cult leader Bret Stiles. What’s the future for that?
Malcolm McDowell: They’ve left that open for me to go back and do a few more of those. I enjoy my character on that; he’s such a wily, charismatic, rather enigmatic character. You’re not quite sure whether he’s bad or what his deal is.
Zap2it: What do you think Breckin Meyer and Mark-Paul Gosselaar learn from working with you on “Franklin & Bash”?
Malcolm McDowell: Oh, I don’t think they’ve learned anything from me. They’re incredibly talented and very different. I’ll tell you what, though, I think Breckin has become a good actor on this show. He’s always been a terrific comedian, but I’m most impressed with the way he handles the dramatic side of it. He’s really shown himself to be a talented, serious actor, if he ever wants to do that, which I’m sure he will.
Mark-Paul is the very opposite. He’s a good comedian, but with his looks and everything, I think people tend not to take him seriously. But he’s a really good performer. Together, there’s a beautiful chemistry that goes on there that I think is terrific.

“Franklin & Bash” airs Tuesdays on TNT.
