After four seasons and over 100 episodes, ABC Family’s “Melissa & Joey” ends its run Wednesday (Aug. 5) with more than a few surprises.
The comedy following local politician Mel (Melissa Joan Hart) who hired a manny Joe (Joseph Lawrence) to help raise her niece Lennox (Taylor Spreitler) and nephew Ryder (Nick Robinson). Hart thinks the series is wrapping up at just the right time in the best way.
“I think 6 years on a show is a very long and successful run before you start running out of steam,” Hart tells Zap2it about the final episode. “And the writers were at a point to wrap up each storyline in such a beautiful way that I feel the audience will have a clear idea about what the future holds for these character.”
Although the Season 4 ender does feature a few surprises, it doesn’t leave any unanswered questions for the fans. After finally getting pregnant, Mel and Joey find out they will be having twins and both freak out in their own ways.
Then, after getting in a car accident together, Lennox and Zander (Sterling Knight) decide to make the most out of life and get engaged. The future also holds big changed for Ryder, who finds out he will be serving in the Navy in the exotic locale of Portsmouth, Va.
Mel decides despite the double pregnancy she is going to run for Congress anyway. She finds out quickly she can’t count on Joey to be a stay at home dad either. The former male nanny gets a publishing offer for his book along with a tour to follow. Everything comes full circle in the end as Mel comes up with the best idea of how she will balance Congress and babies with Joey’s budding career — they’ll hire a hunky manny, of course.
