Michael Phelps already made history at the 2012 Summer Olympics when he became the all-time most decorated Olympian, man or woman, Summer or Winter, when he won his 19th gold medal.
Thursday (Aug. 2), he made some more history. By winning the 200m IM, he became the first man to win the same event at three Olympics in a row. Plenty of men have repeated in events, but nobody has won at three consecutive Olympiads. In winning this event, Phelps also defeated Ryan Lochte in what is most likely their final face-off — they do not swim in the same race for the rest of the games, and Phelps will probably retire after the 2012 Olympics.
U.S. female swimmer Rebecca Soni also made some history, setting a new World Record in the 200m Breaststroke. She swam a 2:19.59, which marks the first time a woman has broken the magic 2:20 barrier. Her teammate Micah Lawrence took sixth.
