Part of “Mistresses” being renewed for a third season on ABC involved the show moving from shooting in Los Angeles to shooting in Vancouver. As such, star Alyssa Milano, who gave birth to her second child in early September, chose to leave the show so that she could stay in L.A. with her family.
ABC Entertainment Group president Paul Lee tells reporters at the 2015 winter TV press tour that in the wake of her departure, the show isn’t going to replace her — i.e., recast someone in the role of Savannah — but “Mistresses” is going to introduce a new character to fill the void.
“We’re going to create another new character,” says Lee. “We’re not going to replace [Milano], but we fully support her decision to stay here. We’re sorry to see her go, but we’ve got some great plans for ‘Mistresses.'”
