"Murder in the First" is returning for a third season on TNT, but it won't be a case Hildy (Kathleen Robertson) and Terry (Taye Diggs) are solving that's breaking your heart. Instead, it'll be Hildy herself as she confronts her own mortality.

In Zap2it's exclusive sneak peek, a diagnosis turns the detective's life upside down and she's forced to come clean to her partner in the Season 3 premiere.

"The doctor told me to get my affairs in order, so I was scared to say anything," she admits. "I'm a single mom. I don't have any money. I don't know how much insurance is going to pay for. I need to keep working. I can't have them thinking that I'm sick."

While it's unclear at this point exactly what she's been diagnosed with, the second episode of Season 3 is titled "Tropic of Cancer," which should provide a pretty clear clue.

With Hildy battling a possible cancer diagnosis, one has to wonder how it will impact the two partners as they begin their Season 3 case -- hunting down the person who murdered a famous quarterback.

"Murder in the First" Season 3 premieres Sunday, June 26 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on TNT.
